Because the gospel gives us the humility to admit that our need is great and the confidence to know God loves us more.
Because when the gospel moves into a neighborhood it does not leave, nor does it leave things the same.
Because the gospel calls for compassionate hearts informed by Biblical convictions
Because gospel influencers are meant to be catalytically sent, not selfishly collected.
Because the gospel compels us toward those who are near and compels us toward those who are far.
A statement of faith is intentionally precise and particular in order to promote clarity about the truths of God and his Word. However, when read in isolation from the community of faith that affirms these statements, it can feel cold and clinical. We believe God cares both that we have these convictions and how we hold them. We want our hearts to sing with warmth and affection for the God who has delivered these truths to us. It is this act of love for God that compels us to love those around us, even those who may disagree.
Jesus lived and ministered with compassion and conviction. He confronted religious leaders who were stodgy, prideful, and moralistic (Mt 23:1-26), but he did not tear down the law, he fulfilled it (Mt 5:17), and through the Sermon on the Mount (Mt 5-7) he deepened many of the moral implications of the law. Jesus defended those who were being condemned by the religious elite (Lk 7:36-50) yet called people to “sin no more” (Jn 5:1-15).
Jesus perfectly embodied compassion and conviction throughout his life and we endeavor to become like him in this way. You are welcome to worship with us, no matter where you may agree or disagree with our Statement of Faith. We also want to be clear about what we believe God says is true as we cultivate hearts of worship and mercy in our church family.
We believe that the Bible, consisting of the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments, is the authoritative and powerful Word of God, verbally inspired by God, and without error in the original manuscripts. We believe that God's intentions, revealed in the Bible, are the supreme and final authority in testing all claims about what is true and what is right. In matters not addressed by the Bible, what is true and right is assessed by criteria consistent with the teachings of Scripture.
We believe that there is one living and true God, eternally existing in three persons, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit; and that these are the same divine essence, are equal in every divine perfection, but that they have distinct and complementary roles.
We believe in God the Father, an infinite, personal spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power and love. We believe that God concerns himself mercifully in the affairs of humanity, that he hears and answers prayer, and that he saves from sin and death all who come to him through Jesus Christ.
We believe in Jesus Christ, God's unique and eternal Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit. We believe in his virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, and teachings. We believe in his substitutionary atoning death, bodily resurrection, ascension into heaven, perpetual intercession for his people, and personal visible return to earth.
We believe in the Holy Spirit sent into the world by God to glorify the Son of God. We believe that he convicts people of their sin and need for salvation and without his work no one would come to faith. We believe that his work in regeneration is not the result of water baptism or any outward ritual. We believe he indwells everyone who trusts in Jesus, providing guidance and power, and helps them make progress in overcoming sin and in becoming more like Jesus in thought, deed, and love for God the Father.
We believe that humanity was created by God in his own image and for his glory, but that we sinned and fell short of God's glory, and thus incurred physical, spiritual, and eternal separation from God. We believe that all humans are born with a sinful nature and thus are completely sinful and are under divine condemnation and in need of salvation. We reject justification based on any human effort, and we believe that only those who trust Jesus Christ as their Savior, by virtue of his atoning death on the cross, submitting to him as Lord, and embracing him as supreme treasure of their lives, are born again, justified, adopted, delivered from condemnation, and receive eternal life. We believe that this faith leads to a heartfelt turning from sin. The Christian life involves growth in grace through persevering, Spirit-empowered resolve to reckon ourselves dead to sin and alive to Christ.
We believe that marriage joins one man and one woman in a single, exclusive, lifelong union and that God designed and directs sexual intimacy exclusively for one man and one woman married to each other. Any form of sexual immorality, such as adultery, fornication, homosexual conduct, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, pornography, or any attempt to change or disagree with one's biological sex is sinful and offensive to God.
We believe in one holy, universal Church made up of all who trust Jesus Christ as Savior, Lord, and supreme treasure of their lives. We believe that God calls us to unite with other believers in local churches to help each other to value Jesus above all, to praise him together, to grow in our love and knowledge of him, to stir each other up to good works, to make disciples among the nations and to spread a passion for the supremacy of God in all things for the joy of all peoples through him. We believe that Christians should be baptized in obedience to God and as an open confession of Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Christians should regularly share in the Lord's Supper to remember Jesus until his return.
We believe in the personal and visible return of Jesus to earth and the establishment of his kingdom. We believe in the resurrection of the body and the final judgment of all people, leading to the eternal happiness of the righteous in God's presence and the eternal misery and separation from God of the wicked.
